Session 04 - Finalize study material
We finalize all study material

Finalize implementation (parallel working groups)
- Finalize the material
- Create the actual formr survey & run. Consider this:
- Implement the experimental logic: Randomly show one of the three videos.
- “make sure participants can’t skip past the writing question before the time is up, and then also so that can’t skip past the videos. I also think that the size of the embedded video on the screen could be an important factor in successfully engendering awe, so something to consider.”
- Advanced wishlist:
- Can we trigger a fullscreen view of the video? (The browser probably forbids this)
- Download the video and store it on the LRZ server (instead of streaming from Youtube).
- Can we measure the actual size of the displayed video (e.g., in pixels), and save it into a formr variable?
Homework 1 (in groups)
Finalize all open tasks for the survey. Write an announcement in the Moodle “Forum”.
Homework 2 (individually)
Please read “The preregistration revolution” by Nosek et al. (2018). Answer the following questions succintly in Moodle. As always, you can answer in German or English.
- Q1: Give a short definition of “prediction” and “postdiction”.
- Q2: What is the problem when pre- and postdiction are not properly distinguished?
- Q3: What is the hindsight bias?
- Q4: Researchers often deviate from their preregistration, losing some of its benefits. Even in case of a major deviation: What advantage does a preregistration still give?
- Q5: Read the challenges and think about which challenge might apply to our own research design. Select one of the challenges, and describe shortly how this applies to our research project, and what might be done about it.
